"I watch it for the plot" XP

My first thought was story, but thinking about it, I think it's characters that carry it for me. Interesting characters can handle themselves even without a plot at all. But a great story with dislikeable / unrealistic characters is kind of ruined by them. There's lots of stuff with interesting and unique premises, but with characters too bland to keep the excitement going.

Yes, even if a story is magnificent if you can't find even one well-written character watching/reading that series becomes really exhausting.

I picked characters but it's got to be a mix between that and Story.

Characters, you can have the most amazing plot concept in the world but if your characters are bland and cannot support it that plot it's pointless. Not to mention you have to make them worth investing time to and feel empathy for them 8'D

I can't decide! To me, characters and plot are two sides of the same coin - I think both need to be equally strong for a great story.

Characters, definitely.
If the story is cool, that's great, but I cannot get into it if the characters are utterly unlikeable or they don't get some awesome character development.
Even if it's a "nothing really happens" kinda plot, I will still enjoy it if I like the characters enough. If the plot is super cliche, it can still go much farther than others of its kind if the characters are done well enough.

Yes, you have a point. Characters can really change even a cliche story into something enjoyable.

This a tough one for me. The title or cover art is what draws me in then if the characters are interesting and it look "cool" then I continue. Unfortunately I have this problem where I want to know how it ends so even if the media slowly goes bad I can't just simply stop.

Oh gosh, I can't choose between story or characters, I feel like the both of them should hold hands...and kiss. ;7; because I can excuse everything as long as those two hold up stron together!

I once read a manga only for the fact that the title was "I am a piano"
it was surprisingly good

Gotta be a the characters

Artstyle or the story is what will first draw me into a series, but if the characters are horrendously written I wont carry on watching it XD  Even if the plots a bit... eh... Ill still watch / read if I liek the characters c:

Yes, I think you have a point.

When I decide which series to watch it usually looks like "Hm.. The story sounds kinda stupid. But well, it's pretty, let's give it a try".
And if I like at least one character then that's it. I'm gonna watch the whole thing.
